Thank you for taking the time to visit us, read on and learn a little bit about what The Fat Pig ltd ethos is.

The Rusty Bike was a creation born  in 2009 off the back of hard work and reputation at 'The Fat Pig',  John Street Exeter.
 
From the bare bones of The Eagle Tavern, a run down, shut down, falling down back street boozer, larger than life proprietor Hamish Lothian and his team created a haven of goodness within a stones throw of the university .
 
Sparing no expense Hamish employed the artistic graphic design talents of his five year old daughter Esme to give her impression of a Rusty Bike, we think you'll agree she did a pretty fine job.

 

FOOD ETHOS

 

Our aim is to minimise the distance from producer to plate . We opened our own pig farm as part of that vision , but break ins and poachers shooting five of the herd put a stop to that. Not giving up however we source all of our meat direct from the farms around Exeter.  Rare breed Pork from Haldon hill, Ruby Beef from Dartmoor and lamb from Langford .
We have forged strong ties with local land owners and game keepers where we shoot venison , pheasant , rabbit and pigeon for the pot.  Bicton college supply us with fantastic rose veal and a small amount of hops for our brewery.
 
You will often find us foraging in the hedges for wild garlic , dandelions and berries , and we bloody love it.
 
Put all this together with a talented and dedicated team of chefs and friendly hospitable staff out front and its pretty close to our idea of the perfect pub.
 
We have tried to offer a different experience at 'The Rusty Bike', whereas our mother 'The Fat Pig' offers a rustic and hearty simple menu 'The Rusty Bike' has been turned into a platform for our chefs, led by Darren Jory, to showcase the fantastic produce available locally.
 
From full butchery to delicate smoking and curing . From selecting Devon ruby red beef on the hoof at Richard Mizzens farm, or foraging for wild garlic to adorn their  salads and soups; From raking cockles on the beaches and shooting game these boys along with Hamish cover the county to bring all this to your plate, as we like to say.... from welly to belly.

But Let us not forget we are a PUB. We are fortunate that we also benefit from the great brewery built at our mother pub the Fat Pig in john street who supply us with all our ale . To complement this we have an extensive wine offering, a varied selection of high end spirits and we even make our own cider.

SO, AFTER A LIE-IN, COME DOWN TO THE RUSTY FOR SOME TOP NOSH, AND MAYBE CATCH A FILM IN THE RESTAURANT(MOST WILL BE CHILD FRIENDLY, SO BRING THEM ALONG TOO)
